You are chosen..

How many times do you think God is calling you to do stuff, but think of excuse after excuse?

BUT I DON'T COME FROM A PERFECT FAMILY...
Neither did Jesus.  Think about it, read the start of Matthew the genealogy of Christ's earthly family.  The only perfect person in that family is Jesus.  Keep reading through the Bible, it is story after story about people in his genealogy that struggled, but still were great warriors of faith.

I'M NOT OLD ENOUGH....
Look at David, read 1 Samuel 16:8-13.  Jesse put all his sons in front of Samuel, except his youngest.  He left David out with the sheep.  Jesse didn't think he would choose his youngest son, but oh was he wrong.

I NOT PRETTY ENOUGH, TALL ENOUGH.....
Again, look at David.  1 Samuel 16:7 "But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or his statue, because I have rejected him.  Man does not see what the Lord sees, for man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart."

I AM SCARED....
Read Luke 12:7 "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Don't be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows.

How often do we feel like God is calling us, but let our fears stop us.  Can you imagine is we jumped all in? Can you imagine if we completely let go and let The Holy Spirit fill us?  Lets's go MOVE MOUNTAINS.

Does God Brag On You?

Job 1:8 Isn't that a powerful verse?  I mean God was bragging about someone who truly fears the Lord.  If the Devil came to God and asked about you, would God brag about how you turn away from evil and fear God?  Look at this verse!

Job 1:10 This verse is Satan talking to God asking about the hedge that has been placed around Job.  How cool is that?  There is proof that He guards those who fear Him, turn from evil, and love Him.  Our God is so powerful! Do you have a faith that is strong enough for God to brag about you?  Would you have enough evidence to "convict" you for being a Christian?

This could have many titles.  I couldn't  pick just one, so...

Goodbye status quo
New normal
Mouse to a lion
Living the life Jesus made for you

I like music when I am thinking, so here is an amazing song to go along with my thoughts.

What's holding you back? Do you want a life that is full life? Do you have the God designed life? You can't have it with things holding you back.  John 10:10

To grab on to promises you can't hold on to what is holding you back.  Ephesians 3:20

Some steps to get this life. Find the excuse. Stop listing to the voices. Don't get in a rut. Always look for ways to show Jesus. People in the bible used excuses also. Moses. Giddion, Jeremiah they all found the excuse but then went on to make history.
Let it go. Most excuses are linked to fears.
Replace it with something. Replace it with a verse. 2 Timothy 1:7.

See the life that God bought for you. Forget the land you have been living in. Think about your promised land that God has given you. Israel went to the promised land in 40 years. It should have taken 11 days. We as humans we mess up His plan so much but he sees His plan through when you are ready to let it go. Don't be the person that misses out because you are holding on to mediocrity. Joshua in the battle of Jericho, before the battle he was told he had already won. Then was given the battle strategy of walking around walls for seven days, their faith of carrying out the crazy battle plan since they already knew the promised land. Joshua 6:2

Ready to step into life after giving up what's holding you back? Psalms 37:3

Trust God! Take the first step! Joshua 3:8

In the scripture they had to take the first step before his promise was fulfilled. His opinion is the only one that matters. Don't you think Joshua's fighters felt weird and thought other would think they were crazy for marching around a city and blowing horns? Accept his promises in your life and know they are for you.  Psalms 37:3-5

Get in the habit of looking to him first. Take delight in Him. Get to know him, get to know his heart. Experience his hearts Psalms 37:4-5

Commit everything to the Lord. Romans 12:1-2

God brings out the best in you and develops well formed maturity. He is the great I am. He wants to show the best of us. When Moses, Jeremiah, and Giddion were telling his excises, God said, "I am. I am with you."

Yeah 6 easy steps right?! Ha! It was easy to type but is hard to actually do in your life and my life daily. I will have to remind myself daily, when I am picking up my cross and following him. The John 10:10

life is waiting on you, when you lay down your life and live His.

Bargara Beach

Picture
I have a confession.....
Picture
I LOVE THE BEACH!
Picture
HA! I mean who wouldn't when this is a beach you get to see.
Picture
I don't think I ever put my toes in the water without singing this song in my head.

HAVE YOU SEEN JESUS, MY LORD?

Have you ever stood at the ocean
With the white foam at your feet;
Felt the endless thundering motion?
Then I say, you’ve seen Jesus my Lord.
Have you seen Jesus, my Lord?
He’s here in plain view.
Take a look, open your eyes – He’s here in this room.
Picture
The beach always makes me feel so small in such a big world.  This beach was about a four hour drive from Brisbane.  Baragara is is area you go in Queensland to see the turtles.  The water was not as blue because the entire week before we went, it rained.  The water ran down from the hills, to the rivers, to the sea.  It was still beautiful though.
Picture
I love to try to imagine what is over the horizon, what the fish have seen, or where all the water rushing over my toes has been.

I love getting to play in something so big it spans the world.
Picture
It is so neat to really stop and think how everything really works together.  I love to just sit and read a book at the beach, obviously from the picture above Josh doesn't just sit on the beach.  The sound is my favorite thing to hear.  It just calms the soul.
Picture
What are your thoughts when you are at the beach?

Thankful

So far, in Australia I have spent a lot of time sitting and waiting.
Sitting at bus stops, waiting on a ferry, staying at home 8-5 for a delivery that might take place the next couple days, or just waiting on Josh to get off work.  I have read A LOT.

I never leave the house without a book.  I can honestly say one of the best finds I have made so far is a library one block from our house.  I know I am a nerd, but  books are really expensive here, and a book can take you so many places, it can also help pass the time.

If you want a list of books so far, just ask.  I would love to share.  What is a book you would add to my list?  I am always looking for more books to read.

One book I have read is a Beth Moore book, When Godly People do Ungodly Things.  I am almost embarrassed to say, but this has been my first Beth Moore book.  I have really enjoyed it.

Being in a different country, I have thought about other times I have been out of The States.  This book combined with Steve Edelhuber, always asking us in Honduras, to talk about how we saw God during the day, has really gotten me thinking.

During the book, Moore talks about ways we can make our lives less likely to be attacked by Satan.  One of the ways she suggests is be thankful.  Look for things throughout your day that you are thankful for, and list them for God.  Tell him you are thankful.  Not in a long prayer that lasts forever and ever, but just throughout your day, kind of having a running conversation with God.  You could just pause throughout your day and tell God, "Hey, Thanks for that."

If you are always thanking God for the amazing things in your life, and even when it is bad, there is always something you can be thankful for, you spend your time looking at the world in a positive light.

In a world where we have #mancrushmonday, #MCM, #Womancrushwednesday, #WCW, #FBF, #Flashbackfriday, why can't we as Christians have #TT or #thankfulthursdays?  This could be a time where we tell the world what we are thankful for.  This can be something that you see that day, or something that you have thought about all week.

Your #TT, #ThankfulThursday post can be something simple, like a picture of a meal, or something more complicated.  The sky is honestly the limit on how much you can be thankful for.  Every Thursday you would just post on Instagram, twitter, and or Facebook a picture or quote of something you are thankful for.

Now, I am just one blog, that has around 100 readers.  Think if every reader started #TT, #Thankfulthursday and told their friends, churches, and shared blog on their Facebook wall, twitter feed, instagram.

We could start a revolution worldwide in no time.  Maybe this could help the world be a more positive place, and who doesn't want to live in a more positive place?

In honor of my Mamma's birthday TODAY.
She is my first
#Thankfulthursday post.
What will yours be?

Love YOU

I feel like everyone is writing and talking about their weight and others perceptions lately.  Honestly, I never have really paid much attention to them.  I currently wear the same size jeans I wore in 2002, size 27.  I have always been addicted to working out, and always just had my own style.

Well that has changed since moving to Australia.  Josh and I have commented on more than one occasion that we feel like the Jolly Green Giant in this country. We feel like the out of shape person looking at all these people who could be swimsuit models.

I was told at the Dr. office the other day, "With your size, we really need to up your medicine."

The way of life is different here, I will give them that.  Eating healthy is cheaper than eating processed.  Which is totally backwards than eating in the states.

Walking is also very common, where in the states we will just hop in our car and not think anything about it, just going a block down the road.  I am just as guilty of this, I drove my car a block to high school every day, a block....really.

Another thing that has really made me self conscious in Australia is everyone as a whole dresses up more.  You never see anyone in a t-shirt and jeans. One day I had to run to the store, I had someone say, "So where in America are you from?"  I hadn't even open my mouth yet.

I responded with, " How did you know I was American?"

"Your clothes, we don't dress that way."
This made me think I should dress up more, and try to be Australian.

I am not saying this to complain about Australia, I truly love it here.  I am giving you background as to why I picked up this book.

Picture

At an early age we are taught to really care about people's perception.  I am guilty of this also, how many times do we tell a little girl, "You look so pretty.  I love your dress.  You look beautiful in that bow."  We need to change this to help kids learn to look inside for their beauty.

Instead we (me included)  need to start looking for things from the inside.  "Oh, you are so sweet for picking up my pen for me."  "Oh, that was such a good choice to choose the healthy snack." (I know those compliments are lame, but I am trying).

This book really changed how I think about things.  I wanted to share it with you.  Clothes in Australia are sized different.  In the states I would wear a size 4 here I would wear a size 6 or size 8.

I have not tried shopping yet, because I do not want to jump sizes.  I am also trying to go as long as possible without buying clothes, after selling so much in the States.  This book talks about how they get sizes.  "Fit is cultural, size is industrial."  That is something to remember.  They just want to sell clothes.

When we go shopping we are often discouraged by the people working at the counter, this book talks about how they are just there to sell clothes, you would think that they are going to be honest with what really looks good, but at the end of the day, they just want you to walk out with the clothes in your possession.  Make a rule, never ask a person at the counter, "Does this look good?"

I thought that it was interesting in this book, it talks about fashion writers who go to all of these shows to give reviews.  They can not give their honest opinion at all. It told story after story about fashion writers who had given a bad review and "punished" for giving bad publicity.  They were not invited back to an event for that company, or made to sit in the back row.  Do not read this stuff.  Again, they are there to make money, not to make you feel good.

I bought something off amazon before I left the states.  I left an honest review of the product on amazon.  Within hours of leaving a not so positive review, I had two emails from the seller offering me $5.00 to change my review.  If they will do this just over an amazon review think about what they will do for a bad magazine review.

Get clothes because it fits you well, you feel good in it, and because you want the clothes, don't look at the size or the reviews.

"Fashion does not love your body.  It does not care about the jeans that cut into your soft flesh, you skirts that ride up, your trouser legs that are too short or long, your shoes that pinch and burn, shirts that gape and straps that slip off.  The closest fashion comes to caring about clothing is  like when a model falls over on the runway, or suffers a wardrobe malfunction.  (p.49)"

One company in Australia actually did research a couple of years ago.  They trashed what they were doing with fashion.  They gave a survey and measured 5,000 women and 5,000 men to find out what they wanted, and their fits to help create their products.  Their profits jumped 84% the next year.
We need to start looking inside and asking, "what makes us feel good?"  "What do we feel fits us?"

After finishing this book all I could think about was a letter Cali Watts gave me when we were in college.  I was going through some stuff, and she handed it to me after cheerleading practice one day.  I have kept it in my Bible ever since.

I made her..she is different.
She's unique.
With love I formed her
in her mother's womb.
I fashioned her with great joy.
I remember, with great pleasure,
the day I created her.
(Psalms 139:16)

I love her smile.
I love her ways.
I love to hear her laugh.
And the silly things she says and does.
She brings Me great pleasures.
This is how I made her.
(Psalms 139:17)

I made her pretty and not beautiful
because I knew her heart,
And I knew she would be vain...
I wanted her to search out her heart
And to learn that it would be Me
in her that would make her beautiful.
And it would be Me in her that
would draw friends to her.
(1 Peter 3:3-5)

I made her in such a way.
That she would need Me,
I made her a little more lonesome than
she would like to be.
Only because I want her
to learn and depend on Me.
I know her heart.
I know if I had not made her like this
she would go her own chosen way
and forget Me, her Creator.
(Psalms 62:5-8)

I have given her many good
and happy things,
because I love her.
(Psalms 84:11 and Romans 8:32)

Because I love her.
I have seen her broken heart.
And the tears she's cried alone.
I have cried with her.
And had a broken heart, too.
(Psalms 56:6)

Many times she has stumbled and fallen alone.
Only because she
would not hold My Hand.
So many lessons she's
learned the hard way
because she would not listen
to my voice.
(Isaiah 53:6)

So many times I have set back
and sadly watched her
go her merry way alone,
Only to watch her return to My arms.
Sad and broken
(Isaiah 66:2)

An now she is Mine again.
I made her, and then I bought her.
Because I love her.
(Romans 5:8)

I have to reshape and remind her.
To renew her to what I had planned
for her to be.
It has not been easy for
her or for Me.
(Jeremiah 29:11)

I want her to be conformed
to My image.
This high goal I have set for her.
Because
I love her.
(II Corinthians 2:14)

Now, I put this poem in here not to say do not worry about your body.  Your body is a temple, being healthy is one thing.

I put this in here to say, " Always be true to you, no matter the circumstance; when you choose clothes, your attitude, how you carry yourself, and do not let others views mess with your style.

Who cares the size, the fit, the look, as long as you personally look and feel beautiful.

BE YOU!  There are a lot of people in the world trying to be someone else.  No one can be you as perfect as you are you.

Life Lessons Quick

Two years ago today, My mom had her heart attack.  Those 24 hours are forever engraved in my memories.  I wear this necklace everyday, to help me remember all the lessons I learned.

Picture

1. You Are Not Guaranteed Tomorrow.

Picture
August 5, 2012 was a normal day.  My mother had come to see me in Conway.  We woke up early that morning and helped with the Kid's Triathlon.  Then we went and worked in my classroom all day.  We had a pretty good day, just getting things done, having fun, and laughing.  Then she told me she was really tired on the way home from Morrilton.  From the first time she said she was tired to thirty minutes later my Mamma was in a heap in my floor.

She had no signs she was going to have a heart attack that day.  She had no warnings, she would have triple bypass in a hospital she had never stepped foot in.

I remind myself all the time how much of a normal day that was.  Scary things do not come with flashing lights and warning signs. We always need to remember to live life without any regrets, because we are not promised a day to fix our mistakes.

2. Live Life To The Fullest.

Make every moment count.  When they ran my Mamma wheeling her in a stretcher to the cath lab. I was not really sure the outcome, that was about to happen.  I have always been the one sick, I had never been in the caretaker roll.

It really made me think, say what you want to say to people.  Be who you want to be.  Live life like you want to live, and do not hold back.  Make the most out of the dash on your tombstone as you can.
Picture

3. Life Is Not About Things.

As I have said in another blog; about cleaning out.  Things do not matter.  You can not take things with you.

(I know I am writing this explaining the meaning of my necklace, but it isn't the necklace that is important, it is the memories, the necklace triggers.)

Things weigh you down.  While Mamma was having her heart attack she was laying in my bed, I was begging her to go to hospital, but she was worried about getting coats for us in the waiting room, because, "It is always cold in there and you know how long you have to wait in the ER."

I listened to my Mamma and grabbed the coats, but now looking back, that was seconds that I could have been doing something else, a moment in time I really didn't need to worry about things.
Picture

4. Life Is All About "Making Memories."

My mother has always raised me with the saying, "It's all about making memories."

When I was sitting in the lobby all by myself, before Amy, Randy, Jennifer, Hunter, and Deb all showed up that night, I kept thinking about all the memories I have been blessed to share with my Mamma.

Yes we have done extreme things; sky diving, diving in Honduras, hiking the Grand Canyon, riding horses in Mexico, snow skiing, but honestly I was thinking about all the times we had just been together and enjoyed each other.  The times we shared dinner and laughed, the times we cried together, the times she held my hand when I was sick, the everyday life moments that really matter. Enjoy the everyday moments!
Picture

5. Love People Not Stuff.

When my Mamma was in the hospital, it was people who brought joy.  It was their hug, their laugh, their true concern for my Mamma.  No thing in the world can offer true compassion.

I will forever be in debited to the people who sat up all night with me the first night.  Amy, Randy, Jennifer, Deb, and Hunter, you will always have a special place in my heart.  Y'all get that just sitting with people matter.  Thanks!
Picture

6. Be Happy In Your Situation - Live Life With the Cards You are Holding.

As soon as Mamma woke up she started thanking God for things.

She was happy she was with me, so she was not by herself, and someone could call 911.

She was happy she was in Conway because the surgery she ended up needing, Searcy does not perform.

She was happy the random dog was in my yard so the dog's owner could help me call 911.

I could go on and on with all the things my Mamma was happy with.  At a time where she could have thrown up her hands and said, "Why me?" She was already making lists of things to thank God for.  She just kept saying, "it is all in his plan."
Picture

7. Don't Meet a Stranger.

When I was in the hospital, I would look at other people in the waiting rooms and think, "I wonder their story."  It really made me think, when you are out and about,  you never know any one's background story.  You do not know the situation they left this morning, or what they have to go home to tonight.  Be the smile they need.  Try to be happy, say hello to others.  You might be their only link to compassion during the day.
You are blessed, you are alive, you can smile, you are filled with compassion and love.  Pass it on!
Picture

8. Do Not Hold Grudges.

Always put the ball in the other persons court.  If you are in a tiff with someone who you love, do not hold on to the grudge, it will only eat you up.

If there is an issue make sure you have let the other person understand, you are OK with the situation, would love to talk it out, or ready to meet at the table.  You are not promised time in the end to call people you were mean to.

When I was thinking of people I needed to call, there was no one I could think of that I needed to call so Mamma and that person could bury the hatchet.
Picture

9. Treat everyone with "Kid Gloves."

My Aunt Becky and I were talking to the Dr. at one point during the first 24 hours.  We were asking questions about what was going on, how we should handle situations, and double checking he was taking care of her to meet our expectations.  He said something that will always be in my mind, "Now girls, we are treating her with kid gloves.  We already brought her back from heaven twice.  He doesn't want her at the moment."

Everyone is some one's daughter, mother, sister, father, brother, or son and treat everyone like you would want your family treated.  Treat others with "kid gloves."  Make sure you do not half do anything.
Picture

10. Find Purpose in your life

It was amazing to see how my Mamma was at peace with everything.   No she was not ready to go meet God, but she knows she has made a mark on this world.  She has made a difference in many student's lives, she has gone to Honduras, she has made memories with those she loves, and she has constantly worked to bring people to Heaven.

If you have no purpose in your life, I can not imagine you being so calm being faced with life threatening situation.
Picture

11. Do Not Put off Till Tomorrow What You Can Do Today - Unless in the Grand Scheme Of Things It really Does Not Matter.

So one of the reasons Mamma was at my house that weekend, was she wanted a break from re-doing her bedroom.  Her bedroom was completely torn up.  She had been ripping wallpaper off and planning on painting her room this real "Nice" yellow.

Well we got off track and started thinking about things, we did not want her to go into her house all torn up.  So Josh went in and finished her room.  He painted it the color she had bought, again a real "nice" yellow.  He did exactly what her plan was.

When we finally got to bring her home, she admitted the "nice" yellow was horrible.  So even though were trying to help take care of things she had put off, we ended up painting the room again, because the room was so bright no one could have rested in it.

So in the grand scheme of things, the room really didn't matter.  It was OK to put off till tomorrow, because unless it deals with people it can always be put off.
Picture

OK, so let me explain my necklace now. The fingers are the sign for I love you.

When I was little in Mountain Home Montessori School, we would learn little bits of sign language.  Honestly, this is the only sign I remember.  It means I love you.  I thought it was so cool.  I would show it to all my family.  It kind of became a sign to my family that reminded them of me.

When my GrandVol got sick with Alzheimer's, in 1995, right before his last Christmas.  He saw a pin that had a hand forming the "I Love You" sign.

He said, EmilyAnne.  So, my Aunt ordered it for me for Christmas that year.  Needless to say the "I love you" sign has many meanings in my family.

My mother has worn the pin, anytime she just feels like she needs a hug from her Dad.

After Mom's heart attack, we had to wake her up to tell her, there was complications and she needed to have more surgery.  She had tubes going everywhere and could not talk.  She just kept making the "I Love You" sign every time we were explaining what was going on to her.

When she got out of the hospital, Josh knew the sign was very special, and bought my Aunt, My Mamma, and I all a charm.

After my mother graduated Cardiac Rehab, and we knew everything was going to be OK, She bought me the heart.  It is a heart by James Avery that represents the love for a mother and daughter.  It has one side bigger than the other to help represent a mother's embrace for their child.

So, now you know, anytime you see it, the meaning of my necklace.

You never know who is learning lessons from your life, but I am glad I can learn so much from my Mamma.
