When we feel unworthy

We all have those moments.   For one reason or another we have all felt unworthy of God's love.  We consider the sacrifice that Christ made for us and we look at ourselves and our lives and wonder, "Why? Am I really worth that?"  Whenever I do this to myself, I actually start to pull away from God. Can you say counterproductive?  So I thought I'd share the traps I try to avoid to keep from forgetting that I am worthy of God's love.

1. Thinking I have to be doing big, amazing, extraordinary things to bring glory to God.
You can bring glory to God every single seemingly ordinary day! When you forgive someone who has sinned against you. When you teach your children about God.  When you help a friend. When you help a stranger.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” - Colossians 3:23
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31

2.  Comparing myself to others whom I think are much "better Christians"
I'm sure you have someone in mind right now.  The one who never misses church, who never loses their temper with their children, who doesn't gossip, who is always willing to lend a helping hand or run a food drive. Meanwhile, I'm just over here trying to make sure my shoes match before I leave for work.  I have to remind myself that perfection is just an illusion and an is impossible to attain.

"but he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." - 2 Corinthians 12:9

3.  Thinking my prayers are silly.
I try to approach God like He is my best friend.  I talk to Him as if we are chatting over coffee.   I talk to Him about my day, I tell Him what is on my heart.  I thank Him for my blessings and ask for His help.  And then I worry that I sound stupid and what I'm praying for is insignificant.  I worry about praying about car problems when people are suffering from terrible tragedies.  But guess what, God cares about your problems! He wants to help you! He wants us to come to Him with ALL things, not just the big stuff.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

Do you ever got caught in the traps that make you feel unworthy of God's love?
How do you remind yourself that God loves you as you are?
